What are Potential Assists?
Potential assists are calculated as any pass to a teammate who shoots within 1 dribble of receiving the ball (per NBA.com)
Potential assists capture both the made & missed shots assists as opposed to just the makes. It gives you a more accurate idea of volume and also adjusts for teammate quality.
What are Rebound Chances?
A player has a rebound chance if they are the closest player to the ball at any point in time between when the ball has crossed below the rim to when it is fully rebounded (per NBA.com)
With this data, you can then find the rate players grab rebounds from those chances, and also importantly remove the results when a rebound chance is deferred to a teammate.
