Some sportsbooks are better (re: sharper) than others at setting odds. That means if you know which books are sharp on which specific market, then you can improve your ROI by uncovering more positive expected value (+EV).

Outlier Pro now lets you integrate this knowledge into your filters and strategies through the ability to select multiple devig (re: sharp) sportsbooks and assign them more or less weight depending on your preference.

(Note: Check out this guide + video if you need a refresher on sharp vs soft books.)

Before we get into it. Make sure you are on the most updated version of the iOS app to see it (V2.90). On web you can simply refresh and you'll see the updates on the EV screen.

If you have never used the Outlier web app (favored among Pro bettors)

1) You can login here https://app.outlier.bet/login (do not click the AppStore button)
2) Make sure to use the same login method you signed up with (email, phone, AppleID, etc).

Setting Up Strategies with Multiple Devig / Sharp Sportsbooks

1) On the +EV screen navigate to the Filters option towards the top left of the page (you can also set it just to the right on the Devig Book drop down)

2) Once on the Filter overlay, you'll now see the option to select multiple sportsbooks to devig against.

  • Selecting Required means that all those books must have odds available to present an EV calculated play on the feed. If you select multiple Required books, the Minimum book counter will automatically increase.

  • Selecting Optional means that it will take those devig books into account when calculating EV, but they are not required to have odds posted. When selecting Optional books, you will need to choose the minimum number of books to account for.

3) Setting the Book Weighting

Now that you've chosen which sportsbooks are included in the EV calculation, now you get to customize how much weight to give them! If you know one sportsbook is sharper than the rest for a specific market, simply give them a greater weight. If you don’t trust they are sharp, lower the weight or set it to zero. The choice is yours, and it will be totally different depending on the league, main markets versus player props, and even time of year.

The screenshot above is an example someone might use for NBA or MLB player props. We know that FanDuel is sharpest for player props, but we also see sometimes smaller markets they may get wrong. To combat this we will also optionally devig against DraftKings and BetOnline when they have posted odds. You'll also see that we give them a lower weight than FanDuel. This will give us some comfort in hedging against the smaller markets where FD may be off.

Pro Tip: Make sure you are in the #positive-ev Discord channel for up to date knowledge on which books are sharp on which markets! There are always people testing theories and improving ROI.
